I don't know about where you live...

But the bars around here are chock full with numerous versions of Kukla and Ollie. I certainly don't need to book a gay cruise to run into the likes of them. In fact I would hope t run into better specimens on a gay cruise! But that's just me.

Root causes?

Way way back in the sands of time, circa 1973, I have cloudy memories of a TV series focusing on a married couple, the plot focusing on the wife having E.S.P. I say cloudy because In memory I Had Meridith Baxter Birney starring in the lead role. Somehow my memory had combined Bridget Loves Bernie with The Girl With Something Extra

The Girl with something extra actually starred Sally Field and John Davidson, since my mind confused who Sally even was or played, it's safe assume that it must have been focused on Mr. Davidson.
More importantly it's retained the memory of one particular episode" "All the Nude That's Fit to Print" in which the character of Mr. Davidson was approached to pose nude as a centerfold. The plot focused on his deciding on such and featured a dream montage of Mr. Davidson making publicity appearance in the buff.

I can't say that I've ever really considered Mr Davidson attractive, he's always been a little too "square" and squeaky clean for me but the image of him being interviewed nude by Merv Griffin has been hard to shake out of my memory banks. Just sayin......

And if that memory isn't disturbing enough, here's a little psychotic episode from The Street of San Francisco:

If you're going to bump it...

Bump it with a trumpet!

George Eiferman, Mr America 1948 and Mr. Universe 1962 shown here performing his barbell and trumpet act. A trained musician who later got into bodybuilding he is credited as one of the founding members of the original Muscle Beach(PRE-STEROIDS!) in Santa Monica California. Mr. Eiferman also worked with Mae West supplying a good amount of background muscle to her night club act.

I'm just finish up Muscle Beach, Where the Best Bodies in the World Started a Fitness Revolution, part of my New years resolution to get even more focused on working out and get my self on stage to compete by this autumn. Hence the reason you all are seeing more posts on fitness! Although, I can only WISH to ever look as good as Mr. Eiferman.

Who it was

Our last mystery photo was an early publicity shot of Vivian Vance (Vivian Roberta Jones). long time gal pal and side kick of Lucy Ricardo, nee Lucille Ball.

She had popped into my head as I was thinning out my book collection and recently sold my copy of her biography : The other side of Ethel Mertz.

Guilty!

And tired of having this conversation.

A little inspiration

Born, December 26, 1906 and reared in Arizona, Goodrich’s childhood home was near a river in which he honed his swimming skills, before later becoming interested in putting the shot and running the 100-yard dash in college. His muscular foundation began in 1928 when he first worked out in David Willoughby’s Gym in Los Angeles.

On April 23, 1939, Goodrich entered his first bodybuilding competition, the Bronx YMHA (Young Men’s Hebrew Association) Greater New York Best Built Man contest. He beat 54 other contestants to win the tall-class and overall decisions.

Six weeks later, on June 10, 1939, in Amsterdam, New York, Goodrich won the contest that resulted in his national physique fame: the America’s Best Physique Contest, also known as the Mr. America. . It's said that his body was so well developed from his track, gymnastics and aerobic training that he didn't really train per-se for the Mr. America Contest. He just walked in, showed off his body and won.

Later he put his athletic skills and training to use as a stand in/stunt double for such athletes turned movie stars as Buster Crabbe (the Olympic swimmer tapped to become one of moviedoms Tarzans) and Red Grange (a football star turned actor) as well as John Wayne and Ken Maynard.

In 1948, he jointly promoted the Mr. USA contest with Vic Tanny. A few years later, he acted as a talent scout, helping to recruit musclemen for Mae West’s touring nightclub act, long before the first Chippendale’s dancer was born.

As a gym owner with seven locations, his main facility was at 6624 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. Mr Goodrich passed away on December 06, 1991
