Extra carbs...

Buns for breakfast.
Did I mention we're bulking?

All I want for Christmas

And don't think I won't use it!  From what I can see that's a fully functioning trunk and from what I remember of my friend John Guibilo owning similar as child, the thing was made of tank metal and weighted a ton.  We're talking a stylish, environmentally friendly leg workout!

Extremely jealous

I can hear my already damged rotator cuffs snapping just thinking about such

What time is it boys and girls?

It's the onset of winter and that means it's bulking season here in gym land, particularly in the weight lifting camp.  As I've mentioned before every winter I up my calorie intake and cut my cardio to see how much weight I can put on and hopefully convert to muscle mass.

While the additional food intake is fun, at first. (why hello again Smart Food!) after a while it becomes a monotonous chore, more food carry around and more to consume. While, not getting into many specifics more food means more output. Avoid bulking bodybuilders in small spaces.  just sayin'.

Add to that the emotional toll and fatigue of  carrying the extra weight on what was just a few months ago, my compact firm frame, last winter I was up to 193lbs (at 5'6" I felt I had reached Mr. 5 by 5 status) and  I am not perky and bounc,y but cranky and irritable. Think PMS.  And don't get me started on having to buy all new pants yet again!

Still, I must say I prefer a guy with a little bulk on him, as in the prime example below. I''ve never been as attracted to washboard abs as to someone with a little beef on his bones.  Let's hope other's are feeling the same way over the next few months.

Another dream house

While a far cry from the sleek modernistic style of the Jupiter 2, I fell in love with Queen Anne architecture at a very early age.  Upon seeing a specimen such as this I immediately start planning formal gardens around it

Given enough money and the right garden helpersI think we could bring it back form it's current state.

Formative Influence

While making catty comments about another lifter's gym shorts yesterday morning, I offered the possibility that they may have been ordered from "International Male".  met by an inquisitive look by one of the trainers, my workout partner and I I tried to explain the importance of said publication on young men of a certain persuasion.  He was very amused. Sadly it's no longer in existence, and I shudder to think of what refugees from Lord know what war or natural disater are wearing all the unsold clothing.

Does anyone else of my generation remember this pre-Internet-gateway-drug-to-gay-porn?  Or anyone ever actually ordered any of the clothing?

"I'll cram it so full of handsome, bulging new muscle..."

No subtext there!  And oh yeah, put me down for two cans of "ALL-OVER MUSCLE"

70 Years Ago Tonight

The Cocoanut Grove was Boston's premier nightclub during the post-Prohibition 1930s and 1940s. On November 28, 1942, this club was the scene of the deadliest nightclub fire in US history, killing 492 people (which was 32 more than the building's authorized capacity) and injuring hundreds more. It was also the second-worst single-building fire in American history; only the 1903 Iroquois Theatre fire in Chicago had a higher death toll, of 602.
The enormity of the tragedy shocked the nation and briefly replaced the events of World War II in newspaper headlines. In both fires, most of those who lost their lives would have survived had the existing safety codes been fully enforced. The tragedy led to a reform of safety standards and codes across the country, and major changes in the treatment and rehabilitation of burn victims.
