Nathanial Hawthorne

"Handsome, reserved, almost frighteningly aloof until he was approached, then playful, cordial, Nathaniel Hawthorne was as mercurial and double0edged as his writing. 'Deep as Dante' Melville said" -- Brenda Wineapple, in "Hawthorne, a life"
And given the chance, I so would have.........

Water water everywhere.....

So, the Boston Globe published an article today listing eight dates under $40. Maybe it's a slow news day what with only the economy, war and new Presidential administration to report on. In any event they fail to give the key facts as to how to snag a date in order to be then able to spend the said $40! see: http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/gallery/8greatdates/

GIRLIE PHOTOS!!!!

OUCH! It must make a girl feel bad, her "girlie" picture not being worth the cost of the paper it's printed on! And remember folks these are "ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHS" your ordering!

Hint! Hint!

So my least favorite holiday is coming up, but it does have a connection to one of my most favorite cookies! And in case anyone asks, YES, the way to this man's heart is through his stomach.......

Are you unpopular? Do you poop out at parties?

"Why? Find out why and the bars that shut you out will fade away and disappear. Most people who miss popularity are themselves to blame. Friends would invite you out if only you had something to add to the general gaiety. For that is why we have parties … to entertain each other."
So be a sport and try to add to the general gaiety....

If flocking is wrong I don't want to be right

He was begging to be blogged...

Mr Reilly popped into my head this morning on my commute to work and then I came across his name while cataloging plays later in the day. Did you know that he directed Julie Harris's premiere in "The Bell of Amherst"?

Countdown

So there's an all school meeting in a few minutes to discuss budget concerns. RUMORS ABOUND!

Do it or pay the consequences!

"They trademarked the phrase "socially acceptable"????????

Been there.

Maybe I woke up in a bad mood today, but I can think of at least a dozen social situations that could be improved upon by using Bette's method in this scene......

Desperate times call for desperate measures

Police: Student Blackmailed Schoolmates on Web for Gay SexA Wisconsin high school student, 18, allegedly posed as girl to get naked photos of male schoolmates--then used the photos to blackmail them for sex

See:

falling in love with love is playing the fool

Original Intro:

I weave with brightly colored strings
to keep my mind off other things;
So, ladies, let your fingers dance
and keep your hands out of romance.

Lovely witches
let the stitches
keep your fingers under control.

Cut the tread but leave
the whole heart whole.
Marry maids can sew and sleep;
wives can only sew and weep!

Valentines day is coming up, Or as I refer to it 'Black Saturday" I leave it up to you to deduce which camp either pro or con I've pitched my tent in!

A MUST READ!!!!

If by chance there's anyone left on the planet who does not feel personally UBER-SCREWED by the Busch administration I highly recommend "Free Lunch" by David Cay Johnston, It's my current commute read and a cause of many spikes in blood pressure.

GAAAAA!!!!!!!

I can only imagine what he's drinking from that bowl. Sadly I have been on the receiving end of such a stare on more than one occasion back in my youthful clubbing days, usually it involved a lot of drinking on the other person's part and the house lights coming up much to soon, announcing the end of the evening

Dawn Portrait of a Teenage Runaway 1976 - Eve Plumb

Deep in the cloudy past of my ill spent youth, I know I saw this film. But the memory was hazy and then again, the unlikelihood of said memory, a teenage prostitute Jan Brady???!!!! But no, the movie does exist and along with it’s sequel “Alexander, the other side of Dawn” makes for some very enjoyable viewing!

Look for a performance by Joan Prather pre “Eight is Enough” as a fellow prostitute and listen for "Cherry Bomb", written by none other than Joan Jett and performed by The Runaways!

As if I wasn't already feeling bloated...

I am starting a couple of weeks on creatine today, Since I’m already lifting heavy, on a failure set regimen and my weight has been given a boost since my round of Christmas indulging(despite my week on soup) I though I might as well ice the cake and throw creatine into the mix. and see if I get any improved results. What's a little more water weight, it's not like I'll be modeling any swim suits any time soon. We're getting hit with yet another snow storm today.

This past weekend my masseuse demanded to know if I was on steroids, and kept insisting that I didn’t have to lie to him bout it. It seems my body, particularly my back, has been improving very much and very rapidly before his eyes. It was nice compliment, realizing that all the hard work has paid off! So I got to answer honestly, No, I am not on steroids, whey protein powder, glutamine, fish oil, carnosine, taurine, B.C.A.A.s, D.H.A., tribulus, and now creatine, but NOT steroids.

How I got started in bodybuilding.....

..sort of, if you substitute being bored, having time on my hands, and realizing I was not getting any action, for having sand kicked in my face. Also substitute joining a a gym and hiring a professional trainer instead of sending away for Charles Atlas' "Dynamic Tension" system. Skip returning to the beach and delivering "something I owe" to previous sand kicking nemesis and come full circle to realize that I am still not getting enough action. And that's how I got into bodybuilding!!!
