I've often wondered why we din't see more of Judy Knaiz on film, she was perfect as Gussie.  Although Jo Anne Worley might have pulled it off

Ethel Merman (introduced by Joe Nameth, no less)performes Jerry Herman's "Before the Parade Passes By" from "Hello, Dolly!" and his earlier "There's No Tune Like a Show Tune" (which later became "It's Today")

Formative Influence

Watched early and often in my childhood.  

Yes, I bought the album (on vinyl). Yes, I know all the words to every song.

And yes, I wanted to eat at the Harmonia Gardens and be Dolly Levi.  You realize of course that the waitstaff could have sung Hello Tony! just as easily as Hello Dolly!

On a related sad and disconcerting note, I only found out just recently that Danny Lockin, "Barnaby Tucker" in Hello Dolly was the victim of a hate crime ending his life much too soon.
