Today's first reference email!

I'm writing this mail with tears in my eye. I came to London,United Kingdom on a Seminar, unfortunately I got mugged at the park of the hotel I lodged, all my cash, credit card and telephone were stolen from me but luckily for me I still have my travel passports with me.

I have contacted the Embassy via e-mail and the Police are not helping issues at all. They told me to wait for 2-3weeks before any help can be done. Besides,my return flight leaves in 3hrs from now. Also, I have problem settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until I settled my bill.

So I was actually felling quite concerned for MR Gary Weiner who had written to our reference deparment's email help until I read his last line! Unless I'm figuring this wrong not being allowed until your bill is paid equates to not being allowed to vacate until your bill is paid! HAZAH! Free room and board in London! And here I was worrying about how to make my mortgage payment or afford a vacation getaway this spring! Suddenly both problems solved in one fell swoop!

So everyone's vocabulary assignment for today...

is to subtly work the phrase "love wanga" into casual conversation.

Which would you choose?

Maybe it's been the long hard winter, but...

My fingers are especially itchy to start gardening this Spring!

My one and only snowdrop in the back yard. No matter how many bulbs I've planted over the years none but this dedicated fellow seem to take. Nor does he seem eager to divide and spread.

The first cuttings of Vinca set to root. The bed around said lone snow drop is rather bare and I want to get a nice mat of ground cover going. These should be rooted & ready to plant by mid-April.

Today's first reference email...

or Should I help Susan play the stock market?

FROM: MRS. SUSAN SHABANGU
SOUTH AFRICA

E-mail:susanshabangu2006@gala.net

Dear Friend,
First, let me start by introducing myself as MRS SUSAN SHABANGU,a mother of three children and the former Deputy Minister of Safety and Security since 29th April 1996 to date under the auspices of the President of South Africa MR THABO MBEKI while re-appointed to head mining ministry under President Jacob Zuma's regime..

After due deliberation with my children, I decided to contact you for your assistance in standing as a beneficiary to the sum of US$30.5M ( Thirty Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars Only) You can view my profile at the South African government on line, http://www.info.gov.za/leaders/depmin/safesec.htm click on, Contact Information, then click on ministry, and finally, click on mining and read about me. The proposal, After the swearing in ceremony making me the Deputy Minister of Safety and Security, my husband Mr.Ndelebe Shabangu died while he was on an official trip to Trinidad and Tobago in 1996.
After his death, I discovered that he had some funds in a dollar account which amounted to the sum of US$30.5M with a security and finance institution in South Africa of which I will divulge information to you when I get your full consent and support to go for a change of beneficiary and subsequent transfer of the funds into your comfortable and conducive account of your choice.

This fund emanated as a result of an over-invoiced contract which he executed with the Government of South Africa. Though I assisted him in getting this contract tender but I never knew that it was over-invoiced by him. I am afraid that the government of South Africa might start to investigate on contracts awarded from 1990 to date. If they discover this money in his bank account, they will confiscate it and seize his assets here in South Africa and this will definitely affect my political career in government. I want your assistance in opening an account with any top prime bank in your country through my financial adviser's instructions so that this fund could be wired into your account directly without any hitch. As soon as the fund gets to your account, you are expected to move it immediately into another personal bank account in your country.

I will see to it that the account is not traced from South Africa. As soon as you have confirmed the fund into your account, I will send my eldest son with my Attorney to come to your country to discuss on business investments. For your assistance, I am offering you 20% of the principal sum which amounts to US$6,100.000.00 (Six million One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars Only) However, you have to assure me and also be ready to go into agreement with me that you will not elope with my fund. If you agree to my terms, kindly as a matter of urgency send me an email. Due to my sensitive position in the South African Government, PLEASE DO NOT CALL ON THE OFFICE LINE, BECAUSE OF THE SENSITIVITY OF THIS TRANSACTION EXCEPT OF THE ABOVE email address. I prefer you send me email than call. All correspondence must be by email to my private email address,
susanshabangu2006@gala.net

If you want to speak with my Banker, that is fine and okay by me. You will have to send down your private telephone /fax number so that I can forward it to him to reach you from time to time this is for security reasons. Please I do not need to remind you of the need for absolute Confidentiality of this transaction must succeed. If you do not feel comfortable with this transaction, do not hesitate to discontinue.

Thanks for your anticipated co-operation and my regards to your family.

Yours faithfully,
SUSAN SHABANGU
Ex-Dept. Minister Safety & Security
South Africa

A little blast from the past!

Early, early signs of spring!

A few days of mild weather and a night of heavy rains has eradicated the last of the huge snow piles that were burying the back yard. True to form, the bulbs in the south facing flower bed, closest to the foundation, have sent up early shoots. I just hope they survive the elusive month of March!

Look for the Union Label

Before unions become a thing of the past!!!!!!

'A unionized college professor, a tea party member, and a Hedge-fund CEO are sitting at a table. In the middle of the table is a plate with a dozen cookies on it. The CEO reaches across and takes 11 cookies, and then looks at the tea party member and says 'watch out for that union guy. He wants a piece of your cookie.'

Floyd's socks

Oh dear.....

True story: I once lured someone home from the clubs, only to lose interest completely upon seeing their choice in underwear....

Yellow mesh????

Was she?

As a wee television viewer I remember being fascinated with lady Elaine. Her strong character and odd looks always struck me as a little androgynous, even though I was too young to understand the concept. Of course it didn't help matters that she sort of resemble a very formidable maiden aunt of mine, in appearance, slightly, in spirit definitely. Am I the only one to suspect that she may have been a daughter of Sappho? I mean, the sensible hair cut alone......

Gentlemen Marry Brunettes

Anita Loos was the author of the novel and play Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which served the basis for the smash film with Jane Russell and Marilyan Monroe. It was hoped that Loos' sequel to the novel, "But They Marry Brunettes" would repeat that success. Russell returned with Jeanne Crain stepping in for a presumably otherwise engaged Monroe. Both women played new characters, if memory serves correct they were supposedly the daughters of one of the original two characters, Broadway showgirls, sick and tired of New York and not getting anywhere. Quitting Broadway, they decided to travel to Paris to become famous, unaware that the follies required more disrobing than they were comfortable with. The two wholesome mid-westerners were further discomforted by the realization that their fore bearers may have bee digging gold when last in the city of light. The film co-stars Alan Young (later the star of TV's Mr. Ed), and Scott Brady (brother of Lawrence Tierney), with Rudy Vallee as well. The Sequel film was not as well received as it's predecessor and thus not as well known.
