When the Nazi concentration camps were liberated by the Allies, it was a time of great jubilation for the tens of thousands of people incarcerated in them. But an often forgotten fact of this time is that prisoners who happened to be wearing the pink triangle (the Nazis’ way of marking and identifying homosexuals) were forced to serve out the rest of their sentence. This was due to a part of German law simply known as “Paragraph 175” which criminalized homosexuality. The law wasn’t repealed until 1969.

This should be required learning, internationally.

“After the war, homosexual concentration camp prisoners were not acknowledged as victims of Nazi persecution, and reparations were refused. Under the Allied Military Government of Germany, some homosexuals were forced to serve out their terms of imprisonment, regardless of the time spent in concentration camps. The 1935 version of Paragraph 175 remained in effect in the Federal Republic (West Germany) until 1969, so that well after liberation, homosexuals continued to fear arrest and incarceration" (here)

Hands to work

As a little self-prescribed bit of therapy to help get me out of my recent funk,  I've redesigned my garden.  The task was partly forced on me.  I absolutely need to move several mature antique rose bushes which have grown, too large for their current locations. I managed to move the first four, out of twelve, this morning.  It has, and will, take a lot of digging. They're a prickly, finicky entrenched lot.

Not unlike their owner....

It's the weekend

Get some sun.

Just Keep walkin'

Here's an odd little number I heard once on the radio as a child. After causing me to annoy my mother to no end asking why they were walking in the subway tunnels, it faded into my memory until I thought I had made it up. God I love the internet!

Nuff said

Just a friendly reminder…

A favorite ghost story

1946-Time of Their Lives

Way back when, in my childhood. one of our local channels would show Abbott & Costello movies every Sunday morning.  This film was always a particular favorite of mine.  I couldn't give you a specific reason why, but with ghosts, a curse, an antique laden estate and Gale Sondegaard in the cast, what's not to love?
