The Jetsons

For whatever reason, I have the theme song to the Jetsons running through my head today. Was there ever a better written lyric than "His boy, Elroy"?

I'd like my Sitcom life please.....

I haven't posted in a while due to being stuck in a fully identifiable, fully fledged rut. It's been 3 weeks of getting up, going to work, stopping at the gym, coming home and falling into bed exhausted. All this has been given the added spice and fun of home remodeling so between arriving home and falling into bed I get to see what has, what hasn't been, and what seemingly will never be done in getting the new bathroom added as well as converting the basement. All the ennui and plaster dust has made me revert back to a favorite old whine.(and a few slogs of wine as well)

"I want Mary Tyler Moore's sitcom life!"

Miss Moore was the precursor of those sex in the the city gals! She had a date pretty much every week, it may not have worked out but at least she had one (Don't ask when was the last time I did). She had a groovy little apartment. She had a cute wardrobe and never wore the same outfit twice! Whenever she was lonely She had Rhoda ready and waiting right upstairs. (or Phyllis, or Georgette, or Georgeanne in a pinch). She had an interesting and fun job that actually mattered! With a competent boss no less!(again don't ask about my reality)

Man oh man where can I get a piece of that pie!

ye olde work stress.......

Circa 1906. "Cossitt Library, Memphis." This Romanesque red sandstone structure, at Front and Monroe on the banks of the Mississippi, was Memphis's first public library when it opened in 1893. Detroit Publishing.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear...........It's been one of those weeks where every computer I touch basically explodes in my face and none of the new library software is working in any remote way like it's supposed to. What I wouldn't give to be issued a stack of index cards to file in some remote cubby of a building such as this.........

The Comic Genius of Nancy Kulp

It turns out I share a birthday (today) with Miss Kulp which comes as joyous news to me. Sadly, it seems I also share her luck in love.....

I think we're dead! Time is going by really really really slow....

If that's a sign of death my job has killed me a million times over.

Another thing to worry about

All this time I've been working to increase my chest and now it turn out my soul is shrinking? WTF????

Window washers

Score! The school has hired a window washing firm to clean the glass sides of the library today. As luck would have it the crew is serving up a good portion of eye candy!

Dry Spell

Without getting into too much detail, my lack of social life has been wearing me down lately. I wouldn't mind practicing in some forbidden feats of strength, or something!

Damn, Kermit was kind of evil back in the day...

H.A. Bolles, Annapolis. Crew Captain, March 20, 1923

Alas, "Commander Harry A. Bolles died July 18, 1943, when his Coast Guard plane crashed into a mountain in Alaska. The Navy named a drydock in Puerto Rico in his memory."

Alas back at work!

And it's back to business as usual! So far today, It's taken twenty minutes of bickering, cajoling and explaining to get one of my co-workers to email her computer password to our IT department so they could update her computer.

I've come back to find out a certain someone started a re-cataloging of a large amount of books without checking with me as to how to do it. As a result they are now listed wrong in the catalog and essentially unfindable on the shelves. Of course, I and /or the inefficiencies of the system will be blamed for the mistake.....

I am soooooo hitting the Tanquery tonight!

Well, today is my last 10 hour day in a string of 23 ten hour days catering for Harvard's Summer conferences. Tomorrow is my first full weekend off o=in a loooooooong time! Blissfully I can sleep past 4:00 am tomorrow as I won't have to be at Harvard by 6:00!

Now I have the joy of facing the dreaded basement remodeling that wills tart in August, i.e the joy of cleaning out 10 years of accumulated crap thus allowing the contractors access to the space that needs to be remodeled! I am way to much of a pack rat and working in bookstores and libraries for over 25 years has allowed me to collect way to many old books that I will probably never read again but cannot bear to throw away. Anyone in need/want of some vintage Americana titles let me know!

Still trying to get to the beach! Alas!

Well, It's been over a month since my library contract ended and I've managed to work either full and/or double catering shifts everyday. All thanks to Harvard's Summer education seminars program. The money's good but I am getting tired and feeling rundown. I need a little reset time to myself before returning to my library position in August!

Another beautiful summer day outside, another catering work shift keeping me inside!!!! So much for summer vacation being all fun in the sun! I wonder what it's like to survive on one salary and have time for a social life? Of course that kind of fantasy only holds true on planets where they pay librarians a livable wage......

I am soooooooooooo damn tired

See you on the beach!

The library I work in was built for air conditioning but never had it installed, thus we work in a glass box of hermitically sealed windows. Once the temp reaches over 80 it's like being held prisoner in an EZ Bake oven! The first year I worked here the fire alarm system went off. The temperature got so high inside that the sensors believed the building was on fire! The perfect environment to store 50, 0000 books! (And one cranky librarian)

84 Charing Cross Road

Looks like it’s time to pull out my copy of “84 Charing Cross Road”(signed of course!) and reread it yet again. I belong to a yahoo group dedicated to keeping Miss Hanff’s memory alive and there’s been quite a lot of buzz from new members who have just discovered her book(s).

It makes me sentimental to dip into them myself. Each title is like an like an old friend you can touch base with infrequently but your friendship just picks up from where you left off.

The lovely Juliet has emailed me with a correct answer. My mystery lady is none other than Louise Brooks, sans her signature bob!

Lordy I am so tired this morning, bartending till past midnight and up at 5:00 a.m to report back to my desk. And now the lyrics to "I'm tired" are running , actually moseying at a very slow meander, through my head to emphasize my state.

HOORAY!!!!! It's my very last Tuesday evening stuck working in the Library until September.
One more week and I am off for the summer! That is if you can call hitting the gym every morning and catering every afternoon taking time off from work!

She's one of my favorite stars,
You don't usually see this miss like this.

Guess who.......

I finally found an ad I felt uncomfortable sending out.....

This October 9, 1975 Rolling Stone parody shows former Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver modeling his own creation........

For those of you not familiar with the history of fashion, I will mention that his idea never really caught on.

Memorial Day Weekend

Due to a winning combination of lack of free cash and lack of foresight I find Memorial day weekend fast approaching with no plans to speak of. Oh how I yearn for a weekend getaway to New York!

My new dream Library

I came across this photo on Flickr, via Miss Retro Modern, http://www.flickr.com/photos/chanadaal/ Oh How I would love to work there, although I doubt much work would get done. My day would consist mostly f sitting dreamily by the Windows either reading or watching the waves.....

Anyone remember the Bugaloos?

An odd short lived series I remember watching in the early seventies. For some reason it haunts me and I even end up having a dream about it now and then. Go figure. Of course their villain/foil was played by Martha Raye and why wouldn't that be memorable?

It's late and I'm tired.

Good Lord, 3 hours at the gym followed by a forty minute walk home after stopping at the organic market(40 bucks for white yams, DON"T get me started!) To be followed by more of same tomorrow morning prior to arriving at work. WHY do I work out so? WHY? Someone just tell me why......

"Some of my Best Friends are..." 1971

How I desperately want to see this film, ever since reading about it in "The celluloid Closet"

"It's Christmas Eve 1971 in Manhattan's Greenwich Village and the regulars of the local gay bar "The Blue Jay" are celebrating. Not much has changed since Stonewall and its not all "Peace on Earth. Good Will to Men" but the times are a changin."

Today's read!

I don't know about all of you, but I an going to make a concentrated effort to work "He was the dainty darling of the dorm" into as many conversations as I can today.

Today's Ad!

Having spent half this morning searching the bathroom for a dropped contact lens can only hope that my vanity top is laughing with me and not at me! Shut your mouth, damn snooty arborite vanity top! Don't I have enough troubles in the morning trying to achieve a semblance of glamour without your mocking laughter!!!!!!
