Farewell to Noel Neill, who died at the age of 95 on July 3, 2016.

Noel Neill played Lois Lane in the film serials Superman (1948) and Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) as well as the TV series Adventures of Superman (1951-58).

She played Lois Lane’s mother, Ellen “Ella” Lane, in a cameo in Superman: The Movie (1978). This started a tradition among Lois Lane actresses. Another TV Lois, Phyllis Coates, later played Ella Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the 1990s. And that series’ Lois, Teri Hatcher, in turn appeared as Ella Lane on Smallville in 2010.

Noel Neill also played Gertrude Vanderworth, the dying elderly wife of Lex Luthor, in Superman Returns (2006).
