You couldn't have one without the other.

A favorite ghost story

1946-Time of Their Lives

Way back when, in my childhood. one of our local channels would show Abbott & Costello movies every Sunday morning.  This film was always a particular favorite of mine.  I couldn't give you a specific reason why, but with ghosts, a curse, an antique laden estate and Gale Sondegaard in the cast, what's not to love?

Early Marcia

Who Knew?: Wallace moved from Iowa to New York the day that she graduated from college with $148 in her pocket. To make ends meet, she performed in summer stock, typed scripts, did commercials and worked as a substitute English teacher in the Bronx. After performing for a year in a Greenwich Village nightclub, Wallace and four fellow entertainer friends formed an improvisational group, The Fourth Wall. In 1968 she appeared for a year Off-Broadway with the group. Afterwards, she made several other appearances in improvisational shows, and, after losing 100 pounds (45 kg) from her previous weight of 230, appeared in a nude production of Dark of the Moon at the avant-garde Mercer Arts Center.
Wallace was a semi-regular on The Merv Griffin Show, appearing over 75 times. When the show moved to Los Angeles, Wallace moved with it at Griffin's request.  One of these appearances in March 1972 led to a phone call from TV producer Grant Tinker, who offered her a supporting role specifically designed for her on The Bob Newhart Show on the recommendation of CBS founder Bill Paley.  The role of Carol Kester (later Carol Kester Bondurant), the acerbic receptionist to Bob Newhart's character, Dr. Robert Hartley, was written specifically for her.

Shorts season may soon be coming to a close

And then there were none.

My favorite episode of the Dick van Dyke show. Reminiscent of Christie's Ten Little Indians and just in time for Halloween!

Bottoms up!

Who knew????

"omg apparently artificial banana flavoring is based on the gros michel banana which was wiped out by a banana plague in the 50s and the banana we eat today is a totally different thing called the cavendish and thats why banana candy doesnt taste like bananas do you know how lied to i feel. like there was a fucking banana apocalypse and no one told me about it until now"

It certainly does explain an awful lot of odd tasting banana candy.  Necco wafers  come to mind almost instantly

R.I.P.

I just found this out.  You all know my fondness for the dancing bear

Cosmo Allegretti, ‘Captain Kangaroo’ Actor and Puppeteer, Dies at 86

The actor and puppeteer, responsible for such characters as Mr. Bunny Rabbit, Grandfather Clock and Dancing Bear on the classic children's show, died July 26 in Arizona. He was 86 and had emphysema, friend and attorney John Munzel told reporters
Allegretti was working as a set painter on Captain Kangaroo but ultimately became talent after he volunteered to create a replacement for someone else's puppet.

Indeed

Carol goes country, Lyle goes Village People

There's always  been something so 1970's about Lyle Waggoner in my mind. His costuming in this number actually seems to accent that image in a good way (start at 2:53).I'm assuming Bob Mackie was the designer, as he was for most of the show.  It's how I'd dress him.

Or not...

Lyle Waggoner posed for Playgirl,...

And while we're on the subject of Bob Mackie....

Captain America!

I like this new uniform he’s sporting!

Petition to get Chris Evans in that for the next avengers?

the redesigned costume works for me.

Reb Brown is Captain America 1979

I have been exhibiting a lot of attitude at work lately

It may be wise to tone it down.  But seriously,  I don't think I can.

A little outdated

1931 Armstrong Sunny Yellow Kitchen

But I'd take it if only for the vintage stove, sink, clock and phone!  Of course miles more counter space and a dishwasher would need to be installed.

Happy 75th!

As usual I want bigger biceps

oh. shit.

And that will mean bulking again for yet another season,  Let's all hope and pray for good results!

Halloween is upon us!

And my continuous thirst for horror grows.  This little gem scared the bejeebers out of me as a child and still continues to gives me the creeps.  I watch it annually around this time.

It's tone of  foreboding here and there  and a few background settings remind me of H.P. Lovecraft's take on New England.

So TCM aired All That Heaven Allows last night

I manged to catch it after coming home discouraged from teaching the course forced upon me without pay by the evil corporation I work for.   Thus far my coping mechanism has been TCM and a two vodka minimum.

What the hell was Jane Wyman thinking???  If  Rock Hudson wanted to convert a historic mill inorder to marry me and move me into it and away from the rat race I'd have my bags packed fast enough to make your head spin.

Things are shaky at the evil corporation lately.  We've just been though our third round of layoffs.  Those of us still employed have been clearly told that do more, MUCH more, with a lot LOT less and suck it up.  Any whining will be an indication that you have time to complain  thus indicating that your job is not all consuming and may be viewed as an unnecessary position..  I'm feeling my own position in the rat race harder and harder to hold and seceding from it altogether is starting to appear more and more alluring.  Unfortunately I don't have anyone tall dark and handsome running a tree farm and hankering to help look after me.  And JaneWyman though she had headaches.....

No matter how you stretch it....

Photo: "Full-scale" Jupiter 2.

Life size model.

Miniature shot Model

The two models of the Jupiter two above were  designed and used for exterior shots of Lost in Space.   The curved extended lines of the smaller model at least give the illusion of a lower deck.which had not been thought of or included in the original script when the series was planned. Although still physically impossible to fit.

And let's not even think about where they'd fit the third level reactor core, seen only in one particular spooky episode (and a particular favorite of mine.)
