I know it's long become a day of mourning for our native Americans but as an Sicilian/Italian child I cannot stress enough how much we celebrated the fact that the country was discovered by and named after, Italians! Of course the fact that Amerigo Vespucci turns out to be something of an opportunistic borrower and con man in his latest biography only warms him even more in my heart. Sorry but I like a little chutzpah!.
