I'm also sort of fascinated with what's going to happen to the plinths and columns on which they stood or reared back. I think they should be left alone, ghostly and poignant, without the ghastly and mortifying statues the held. The column in Lee Circle on which his statue was mounted is quite large. It could stand all alone, like an obelisk.

I remember seeing an article recently where a former communist country had left all the pedestals up but took down the statues.
