The Chronicles of Narnia were one of my favorite series of books as as child. As a wee reader I fell in love with the description and illustration of Mr. Tumnus' cave, I even have a framed print of it hanging above my desk to this day.

Easters coming!
Time to make the traditional Pizzagaina!
EASTER PIE "PIZZAGAINA" | |
13 x 9 pan – greased and flour pan very well on bottom, inner corners and up sides. Crust Ingredients: 3 1/2 cups flour 3/4 cup Crisco 3 eggs 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. pepper 3 tsp. baking powder 3/4 cup water (more or less as needed) Filling Ingredients: All meats should be purchased in solid chunks as you will be dicing them into 1/2" to 1/4" pieces. 12 eggs 1 basket of fresh Easter cheese (Fromaggio Fresca) to dice like the meat 3 lbs. Ricotta cheese 1/2 lb. aged provolone cheese in chunk to dice like the meat 1/2 lb. grated Romano cheese 1/2 lb. prosciutto 1/2 lb. capicola 1/2 lb. boiled ham 1/2 lb. Genoa salami 3/4 tsp. of coarsely ground or cracked multi colored peppercorns 2 sticks of dry sausage-sopressata (remove casing) 1 stick of pepperoni (remove casing) Preparation for Crust: Combine all ingredients to make dough, (don't work too hard to avoid making it tough) Line pan completely, gently pressing into the bottom, the corners and up the sides. Note: crust should be thicker than for a regular pie. Preparation for Filling: Dice all meat and hard cheeses, put aside. In a large bowl, mix with spoon the Ricotta, eggs and grated Romano cheese. Add diced meats, hard cheeses and pepper.Pour into crust and bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours or until filling is set – very, very light golden color on top – do not burn. |

Medical Research
While preparing a LibGuide for a class dealing with Doctors and trust, I tried to find an image of Doctor Kildare and stumbled upon the photo below.
While I could NOT use it for educational purpose, I couldn't very well let it go to waste now could I?

Heirloom Plants
It may not be much to look at now but the rose bush pictured above is destined to be one of my favorites, or perhaps I should say, always has been.
My brother is selling our family home so this past Sunday he and I met to perform a final walk though and see if there was anything we wanted to take with us. The house had been cleaned out long ago but one thing I hadn't though of until the very last minute was my Aunt Mary's garden.
When we were growing up, we lived in the middle apartment of our three decker with my Aunt Mary above us and my Aunt Connie and Uncle Paul below us. They all tended our back yard diligently. Over the years since their passing a patio and lawn encroached on the original flower borders they had set up but a few plants survived, the rose bush above,
along with some common orange day lilies
and variegated hostas that grew by our back door.
The hostas have been planted by my current back door, mirroring their original spot. The day lilies are now in a bed viewable from the window above my kitchen sink (a spot I spend a lot of time in) and the rose bush is by my front gate, where it will greet me every time I enter or leave the house.

I could really use a cup of joe
My insomnia has returned and I'm falling asleep at my desk... I've been waking up between 2:00 and 3:00 every morning for the past week and staying awake until the alarm goes off! While my house work is getting done at a prodigious rate. (Yesterday I planted 4 newly shipped lilac bushes at 4:00 a.m by flashlight no less).

Who it was
Our last mystery woman was none other than Donna Douglas, best known for her role as:
Ellie Mae Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies
A turn starring with Elvis in Frankie & Johnny
And my personal favorite role as patient Janet Tyler(after the bandages came off, the part was split with actress Maxine Stuart playing under the bandages) in the Twilight Zone episode "Eye of the Beholder"
Best know as a blonde, no one seemed to connect the actress with being a brunette.

Temporarily derailed
Alas, the best laid plans of gang aft agley, my training regimen for being onstage by October has hit a snag, two snags actually in the form of two bulging discs(L4 & L5) one of which is pinching a nerve in my left leg. It's made it impossible to walk for the past few weeks and I''m able to move now thanks to an aforementioned steroid injection, now to be followed up by six weeks of physical therapy with little to no chance of cardio or leg workouts.
In a an attempt to make lemonade out of bitterly acquired, and unwanted lemons, My trainer and I have decided to put me on a weight gain cycle. It makes sense, no cardio & reduced mobility means I will put on a bit of weight anyway. I've been wanting to build my upper body size, and since I can only work upper body, we will focus on converting that body fat into more muscle tissue through heavy lifting and failure sets.
This will entail adding an additional 1000 calories per day into my diet, all from carbs and unsaturated fats. This will mean a wider waist and a wider everything. I will be breaking out my "fat" pants when I normally would be gearing up for cutting phase and bathing suit shopping(Weight gain phases are normally done in winter) UGH!
I know it makes sense, and I know it 's the best thing to do but I am so NOT HAPPY with this situation. WHINE WHINE WHINE, yes I know that most of the population has real and worse problems, but it's my blog and where else am I going to complain? I only hope it doesn't impact my time line for competing in the Fall.
