Was she?

As a wee television viewer I remember being fascinated with lady Elaine. Her strong character and odd looks always struck me as a little androgynous, even though I was too young to understand the concept. Of course it didn't help matters that she sort of resemble a very formidable maiden aunt of mine, in appearance, slightly, in spirit definitely. Am I the only one to suspect that she may have been a daughter of Sappho? I mean, the sensible hair cut alone......
